National Commission for Women member moots hospital for every Central prison

Nellore: Sushma Sahu, member of the National Commission for Women (NCW), said that they would recommend to the Commission for setting up a hospital in every Central prison to ensure continuous health services to the inmates. Sushma paid a visit to the Nellore Central Jail located at Chemudugunta on Tuesday.

She interacted with women prisoners and enquired about amenities being provided to them by the authorities. She asked the women prisoners whether authorities have been providing food as per menu or were there any deviations. Interacting with the media at Pinakini Guest House in Nellore, she said that the main aim of her visit is making the Central prison as a model one.

She explained that the NCW has been observing whether authorities of the Central prison were following the guidelines of the jail manual and guidelines of the Supreme Court or not. Sushma Sahu said that they would also recommend increasing wages for the women prisoners for their work. She also stated that they would send a proposal to the Commission for providing civil dress for undertrial prisoners. Sushma expressed her satisfaction over sanitary conditions in the Central prison and also peaceful environment in the surrounding areas.

Sushma informed that the NCW has been conducting a probe on various cases at Mangalagiri at the office of the Director General of Police (DGP) on Wednesday. She also appealed to the people to approach her at the DGP Office to resolve their cases which comes under purview of the NCW. 

She also said that they would send a proposal to the state government for introducing vocational training course in the prisons for women. Member of the State Commission for Women Ramadevi, ICDS Project Director Prasanthi, Nellore City DSP NBM Murali Krishna, Central Prison Superintendent M Ravi Kiran and others were present.
