Farmers stage rasta roko for water

Eluru: Farmers of Kovvali village resorted to rasta roko on National Highway at BSNL Tower near Denduluru village in protest against the officials’ negligence in providing water to their crops. Farmers in Kovvali are cultivating 4,000 acres, but they are deprived of water. 

Hence, farmers demanding water to save their crops which are being cultivated in 200 to 250 acres. Irate farmers reached the National Highway at BSNL tower near Denduluru and resorted to rasta rook on Friday. Vehicular traffic on Eluru and Bhimadole side was halted due to rasta roko.

Bhimadole CI Nayak, Denduluru SI Sankar, tahsildar Satyanarayana reached the spot and discussed with the farmers, in turn, the farmers did not withdraw their agitation. 

They demanded the immediate release of water to their crops. Otherwise, they won’t withdraw the agitation. Learning about the protest, the irrigation officials reached the spot and assured that Eluru Krishna Canal water would be released within two days to save the crops. Kovvali area was under the Godavari delta cultivation and water would be supplied from Godavari Eluru canal. 

However, as the Godavari canal tail end land has no water, the farmers expressed their agony and started the protest. Meanwhile, tahsildar Satyanarayana visited Kovvali village and inspected the fields.  He addressed the farmers at the VRO office. Later, he went to Jilledudibba area and inspected the fields. He assured the farmers that irrigation water problem would be solved.
