Man dies during cockfight
Eluru: A 34-year-old farmer died at a cockfight ring when a rooster’s knife pierced his thigh at Rajavaram village in Koyyalagudem mandal on Thursday. According to sources, Gedda Acciyya (34), a farmer of Pangidigudem village in Jangareddigudem, went to Rajavaram village where the cockfight was going on unabatedly over a week. He sat in the ring to watch the fight of the two roosters.
The roosters during the fight jumped out of the ring and fell on Achchiyya. The blades that tied to the legs of the roosters pierced the thigh nerve that connected to testicles. In this incident, Achiyya fell with heavy bleeding. The surrounding people took him to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
It is suspected that the blades tied to the roosters' legs might be poisonous, hence, Achiyya died on the spot. However, the Koyyalagudem police did not visit the area and said that it is a natural death when asked.
They did not shifted the body to post-mortem. Police are claiming that they are controlling the cockfight, however, in Rajavaram the cockfight was going on. No police were seen at the ring though thousands of rupees were being exchanged on betting.
