Woman Maoist surrenders before Srikakulam SP

Srikakulam: Irothu Sundaramma alias Sadhana alias Sindhu, a woman Maoist member of Koraput area committee, surrendered before Superintendent of Police Dr C M Trivikrama Varma here on Sunday. 

Sindhu is native of Bathupuram village in Vajrapukotturu mandal in Srikakulam, which was one of the Maoist-affected village previously in Palasa area. She was attracted towards Maoist movement while studying as her brother I Eswara Rao and another brother I Janaki Rao alias Krishna were also influenced by Maoist ideology.

Sindhu joined in Maoist movement in 2002 with encouragement of Gara Vallabha Rao alias Chinna Murali, Janaki alias Appala Naidu, Venkata Rao alias Trinadh alias Sasi.Initially she was working with Kondabaridi area in Vizianagaram district later she was shifted to Gotta and Deruvada areas in Srikakulam district. She acted as medical team member in attack on police camp at R Udayagiri in Odisha state in 2006 and provided first aid to injured Maoists.

In 2006, Sindhu was promoted as area committee member of Koraput subsequently she also worked as Jhanjavathi Dala Commander from 2008 till 2009. She had been in training for eight months in Dandakaranyam in providing first aid and medical treatment to party members whenever they needed.

Sindhu participated in attack on Nalco Company at Damanjodi, Paluru, Narayanapatnam, Dayiguda and Mettakamaravalasa attacks, the SP explained.  She played key role in Kedavayi, Chinnadoddi and Jaradu incidents. 

Later, she has been distancing herself from the party for some period due to rifts with party members and differed with party ideology. Again, she joined the party but was unable to adjust herself due to differences with party members, ill-health and decided to surrender to lead a peaceful life. 

She is carrying a reward of Rs 4 lakh which will be handed over to her shortly and try to accommodate other facilities through the District Collector, the SP assured. On the occasion, the SP made an appeal to the extremists to surrender before the government to lead a peaceful life by giving up arms.
