No quality check in building works of SVVU campuses
Tirupati: Th campus construction works being executed by Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) with Rs 252 crore funds of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) at various places across the state are of poor quality in the absence of proper supervision by varsity officials. Several irregularities will come to light if the state government orders a probe.
In 2016-17, the NABARD had sanctioned funds to the SVVU for construction of administrative blocks, classrooms, hostels, labs and setting up other facilities in its campuses in the state. The main objective of funding is to create infrastructure and amenities for the convenience of veterinary students and farmers.
In Tirupati, works were started for construction of the veterinary clinical complex with super specialty facilities, hostels, labs for Dairy Technology College, and two indoor shuttle courts. The SVVU spending Rs 42 crore for construction works. There is a major criticism that varsity authorities have completely ignored the supervision of the works by handing over them to the Police Housing Corporation.
As per the government norms, it is mandatory for third party to assess the quality in construction works. In TTD too, third party chosen by the Engineering wing will check the construction quality. An Executive Engineer had supervised the construction works in the last one year. Few days ago, a lady Deputy Engineer from R&B department was posted under deputation to supervise the construction works.
According to varsity sources, authorities are using her services as a care taker of a guest house instead of intended purpose. The Hans India correspondent has tried to contact SVVU Registrar Srinivasulu over the phone, but he was not available.
