Reverse mentoring vital in nurturing talent
Visakhapatnam: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised HR Summit on ‘Future of Talent’ here on Thursday. The summit witnessed top HR industry experts, HR industry influencers, business experts, decision-makers, HR professionals and HR technology creators creating the perfect networking and educative platform for the creation and exchange of ideas covering sessions on IR- Changing scenario, Industry 4.0 – Readiness, HR Analytics and HR Best Practices Presentation along with CEOs’ Panel.
Addressing the inaugural session, Chairman of CII Andhra Pradesh and Director of RHI Clasil Private Limited RVS Rudraraju emphasised the importance of Industry 4.0 and channelising talent. Mentioning that in coming days hierarchy may roughly matter in an organisation driven by talent and the workplace may be a collaborative kind of thing. The best task would be to keep the young talent engaged with new challenges, he added.
Addressing from academia point of view in the CEOs’ panel, the Director of IIM, Visakhapatnam, M Chandrasekhar, informed that the current talent pool is not what it used to be. They are collaborators, explorers, creative and competent. The more focus should be given on practical learning instead of ‘Chalk and Talk’ approach. Reverse mentoring is playing a big role in nurturing talent and in line with that, institutes are also coping with the emerging trends, Chandrasekhar mentioned.
Vice-Chairman of CII Visakhapatnam Zone and Chief Executive Officer of Granules Omnichem KVV Raju during his address informed that there must be proper connect between the HR and management every time to understand the need of the hour. For sustainable development, acquiring and retaining the right talent are most important. Talking from manufacturing perspective, he told that IT is going to be an integral part of manufacturing in the days to come. Hence simple qualifications may not be able to serve the industry requirements.
Speaking during the CEOs’ Panel, Chairperson of CII Indian Women Network and Managing Director of Patra India BPO Services Lakshmi Mukkavilli stressed that CEOs should go hand in hand with the HR partners and HR as a vertical should be given equal importance. Skilled talent pool in the right direction can cater to the needs of the Industry 4.0.
