JNTUA to introduce solar, wind energy courses soon
Anantapur: A 2-day workshop on solar and wind energy and its prospects was conducted here at JNTUA campus by the Electrical and Electronics Engineering students on Friday. Participating in the workshop as the chief guest JNTUA Vice-Chancellor S Srinivasa Kumar said that the nation is presently run on coal-based energy which is contributing to atmospheric pollution and the depletion of ozone layer on the sun. He said that promoting clean energy production is the need of the hour.
The Central government has targeted production of 200 gigawatts of clean energy by the year 2020. The V-C revealed that 30 percent of AP's energy needs are met by solar and wind energy plants operating in the state. He said that when compared to past the cost of production of solar panels have come down.
He called upon the engineering students to indulge in research-oriented work to bring down further the cost of producing clean energy. He also mooted the introduction of solar and wind energy courses in M Tech as well as the university-industry interface. BHEL retired general manager P V Rajagopal delivered the key note address. Engineering college principal Prof K Prabhakar Rao, workshop chairman Kiranmayee and coordinator K Jitender were among those present.
