MLAs seek action against multiplexes

Amaravati:  Several MLAs of the ruling Telugu Desam party requested the government to make a policy to control irregularities in multiplexes and theaters especially high pricing of tickets and food items.

At the time of release of new films, the multiplexes collect Rs 1,000 per ticket, the legislators complain

The MLAs brought the irregularities to the notice of the government during the question hour in the Assembly on Saturday. They said that the theater managements are selling food items without following any rules. The audience have been suffering due to high prices on food items and high ticket prices.

MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary said that the tickets are being sold at Rs 1,000 at the time of release of new movies. The poor and middle class people are unable to bear expenses, he said and added that there is a lapse in the policy. BJP Floor Leader P Vishnukumar Raju asked the government to make a policy after conducting a meeting with the managements of multiplexes and theaters. MLA SV Mohan Reddy said the theater managements are not allowing audience to bring even drinking water from outside. The tickets and food items are sold as per the directions of managements of theaters, he said. 

MLA G Veeranjaneyulu said that already they brought their objections on the excess fares to the notice of theater managements.  Minister for Civil Supplies P Pulla Rao said the government would cancel licenses, if anyone violates rules. He said the government has already conducted raids on multiplexes and theaters. 

"Notices were issued against several theater managements for irregularities," he said.  The Minister also said that the district collectors have discretionary powers to decide ticket price. The government would take a decision soon reviewing the whole situation, he assured the MLAs.
