Students stage rasta roko against Adi Kavi Nannayya University

Chintalapudi: The students of Government Degree College at Chintalapudi resorted to rasta roko on Friday in protest against the officials of Adi Kavi Nannayya University (AKNU).

The students of degree college reached the Eluru-Chintalapudi main road in the morning and resorted to rasta roko halting the traffic for more than an hour. The students said that about 500 students were pursuing degree in the college and most of them hail from lower middle class families. 

When the AKNU introduced semester system in 2015, even merit students were also failed in the examinations. When the failed students applied for revaluation by paying Rs 750, the AKNU officials have passed them in the examinations.

Manikantha, a final year degree student of college, said that over the last three years, the AKNU officials making the students sick by failing them in the examinations and collecting the fee of Rs 750 from the students for revaluation. 

After paying the fee, in the revaluation, the students passed the semester. The students alleged that the AKNU had introduced cluster subject system in the colleges. So far, no syllabus was completed, and the books were also not available in the college, they alleged. 

They said that within a week they must attend the examinations without completion of the syllabus. College Vice-Principal Nallmati Manimala told that it came to the notice of college that most students are passing in revaluation only and they will inform the matter to the higher officials of AKNU. The police later discussed with the students to clear the traffic. After an hour, the students withdrew their agitation.
