Transport department officials observe pen down strike
Guntur: Employees working in the Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Authority office in Guntur district observed pen down strike on Friday across the district following attack on their colleague Ahmed on Thursday. They wore black badges to register their protest across the state while in Guntur district, the employees wore black badges and observed pen down strike.
Devi Prasad, who came to Deputy Transport Commissioner’s office in Guntur city for driving licence renewal, manhandled clerk Ahmed alleging for delay in service. He had a heated argument with Deputy Transport Commissioner G C Rajaratnam and RTO and other officials also.
When, Devi Prasad manhandled Ahmed working in the office, the employees lodged a complaint against the latter with Nallapadu police station. Later, they met Collector Kona Sasidhar and demanded action against the accused and see that no such incidents repeat in future.
The Collector assured that he will act against the accused and requested the staff to attend duties. Following the Collector’s assurance, employees decided to attend duties from Saturday.
