Diarrhoea intensity abates in Guntur
Guntur: With the district administration and medical and health officials taking concrete steps, the intensity of diarrhoea has come down in the district in the last few days.
Currently, twelve patients are undergoing treatment in the Guntur Government General Hospital(GGH). Earlier, following the directions of the district administration, the GGH doctors opened two special wards to deal the outbreak of diarrhoea. As the situation improved, the officials closed one ward. Similarly, the medical camp set up in the One Town Shaadikhana was also closed.
The officials said that 12 patients undergoing treatment in the GGH will be discharged in the next 48-hours as their condition is improving. So far, 15 people have died in the diarrhoea outbreak reportedly caused by consumption of contaminated drinking water. Over 100 patients are undergoing treatment in private hospitals.
GGH superintendent Dr D S Raju Naidu said, “Due to effective steps taken by the officials and administration, the number of diarrhoea cases has come down in the city. Now 12 patients are undergoing treatment in GGH and they will be discharged in one or two days.”
He called upon people to take all the precautionary measures while preparing panakam on the occasion of Srirama Navami festival and suggested to use filtered water.
GMC executive engineer Rama Naik said the officials had started measures to replace the old drinking water pipelines besides chlorination of water. He also said the officials were collecting samples of drinking water in the Old City.
GMC commissioner Srikesh B Lathkar is regularly inspecting the Anandpeta and surrounding areas in Guntur city and interacting with the residents and reviewing the situation. Principal secretary, municipal administration, R Karikal Valaven, director of municipal administration K Kanna Babu were also reviewing the situation.
