Hailstorm damages crops in Chittoor dist

Tirupati: Unseasonal rains were reported from various parts of Chittoor district bringing respite from the sweltering heat on Friday. Average temperature in several parts has been crossing 37 degrees for the last few days. Meanwhile, hail storms, accompanied by thunder   and lightning, damaged crops in Kuppam, Gudupalle, V Kota, Kurabalakota and other western parts of the district.

In Kurabalakota, hail storm killed two cows. Mango, mulberry, chilli, tomato, beans and other crops were severely damaged due to unseasonal rains. Mango crop was damaged in about 100 acres in V Kota mandal only causing an estimated loss of Rs.1 crore. Several electric polls were uprooted resulting in disruption of power supply.
