Visakhapatnam: Thunderstorms accompanied with gusty winds are likely at isolated places over the north coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next two days.
State govt advises the Collectors to be vigilant and take precautionary measures
The meteorological department alerted the State government that the thunderstorms with gusty winds are likely in the north coastal Andhra region during the next 48 hours from March 31 evening to April 2. There is a sudden climate change at almost all the places in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam districts and parts of the East Godavari districts on Saturday evening. The people of the north coastal region are experiencing gusty winds speed reaching 45 to 55 km in the evening hours of Saturday.
According to the IMD scientists, this type of climate changes mostly would occur in the peak summer (April/May). However, with the adverse climate conditions, sudden downpour, thunderstorms and gusty winds are taking place even when the summer has not set in completely.
Not only Andhra Pradesh, similar alerts were also given at several parts in Telangana State, the scientists added. Meanwhile, with the IMD alerts and the sudden hailstorm on Friday at Vontimitta in Kadapa district, the government alerted all the district administrations in coastal Andhra districts to take immediate steps to ensure zero human loss.
All the tahsildars, revenue divisional officers and heads of all the line departments have been directed to stay at their respective headquarters until normalcy is restored. The officials have been directed to take necessary precautions. Visakhapatnam Collector Pravin Kumar directed the officials to be vigilant and report immediately if any untoward incident takes place.
