Four of family drown in Godavari
Eluru: Four members of a family including a woman drowned in River Godavari at Sivagiri in Polavaram mandal on Saturday morning.
1. They belong to Chattisgarh and have plans of pleasure trip to Papikondalu
2. They went to a streak inthe middle of the river to have bath
According to police, 10 people of two families of Jagadalpur in Bastardistrict of Chhattisgarh visited Rajahmundry on Friday morningand stayed with their relatives. Later, they went to Angaluru in East Godavari district and boarded a boat. They travelled up to Perantalapalli in West Godavari district. They had plans to visit Papikondalu. The ten-members from Perantalapalli reached Sivagiri in the night and stayed in the huts maintained by private people.
On Saturday morning, all the 10 members, seven women and three men, went to the banks ofGodavari. They boarded a country boat to go to the middle of river to a streak. After leaving them at the streak, the boatman returned to Sivagiri side to bring the other members to the streak in between the sand dunes.
Among the four first reached, SivangiRathi (25) entered the river to have bath and drowned. The other three immediately went into the river to save her. Unfortunately, all the three also drowned before the boatman returned to the place. The boatman who returned to the place, with the help of other villagers, was able to retrieve the bodiesafter some efforts. The deceased were identified as Mohan Rathi(48) Jagadish Rathi (40), Ankit Rathi (16) and SivangiRathi(25) all were from one family.
On information, the Polavaram police reached the spot and shifted the bodies to Polavaram Primary Health Centre. Polavaram SI K Sriharirao said a case was registered in this regard on the complaint from the relatives. After postmortem, they handed over the bodies to the family members.
Meanwhile, the resort constructed at Sivagiri on the banks of River Godavari has no permissions from the officials. The JabilliResorts at the Sivagiri is running the cottages. Whenever tourists reached, the management used to collect higher amounts and ignore the safety of the tourists. No warning board was erected at the River area near the resort.
