Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Maiti said that the SSTPP has started working on the water conservation scheme as a pilot project, he added. The NTPC Energy Technology Research Alliance (NETRA) has developed the new technologies for better utilisation and best practices of water conservation, he said.

Using the technology of the multiple evaporation methods, the plant would make seawater into drinking water. The NTPC Limited signed an MoU with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to supply drinkable water.
The safe drinking water would be used by the IRCTC at the railway stations where Rail Neer kiosks are established and a bottling unit would be set up by the railways on the power plant premises only.

The NTPC-SSTPP has been organising various programmes in and around Parawada as a part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects such as developing infrastructure at schools in Parawada, in the vicinity of the plant. The company is having sufficient coal stocks and procuring the coal from other states, including Singareni Mines for its operations.
The General Manager (Technical Services),  Saroj Chelluri, said that the NETRA is all set for applying for the patent rights for the project as it is the unique project in the country. As the water is gaining much more importance in the country due to water crisis, it is right to time to save the water. NTPC is doing its efforts to save water through this project, she explained.
