Fund crunch hits Polavaram works

Amaravati: The state government which has not yet received the pending Rs 2,886 crore related the Polavaram project expenditure from the Central government, is struggling in completing the project. It may be mentioned here that the Central government announced a week ago that it would release Rs 1,400 crore but nothing is moving in this direction. 

Water resources minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said that the Centre has been confining itself to a mere statements but not releasing the money. He spoke to media after attending a review meeting on irrigation projects held by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the Secretariat on Monday. 

He further explained that the Central government officials were making various excuses not to release the funds and holding the amount without any proper reason. Still, the state government has been putting in all efforts to obtain the pending amount for Polavaram, he explained.
