Polavaram displaced demands higher amount for housing

Polavaram: The Polavaram displaced people in Kothuru and Vadapalli has reiterated that if the Government enhance the funds to housing construction to them, then only they vacate the villages .

The second phase village meetings to get approval for the housing programme of Displaced people of Polvaram project started at Kothuru and Vadapalli villages under Kondrukota Panchayati in Polavaram mandal on Tuesday.

The Kondrukota Sarpanch Punem Lakshmi presided over the village meeting. The ITDA Project Officer Harindra Prasad, Jangareddigudem RDO K Mohan Kumar, Housing Project Director Srinivas participated in the meeting. The officials visited the villages to get the approval at any cost from the displaced people. However, from the beginning the villagers raised the issue of construction cost of the houses that aimed to give to them. Displaced people Midiyam Venkata Swamy, G Anil Kumar, Kothapalli Satyanarayana, Katgraju Satish and others while addressing the village meeting, stated that if the government sanction Rs.4.50 Lakhs per house to the displaced people, then only will cooperate with the officials. 

They asked the officials to allot the construction work to other departments other than the Housing department. “We are asking the sites and farm fields on our wish only” they stated. The displaced alleged that the Special Deputy Collector of Kovvur has insulting the displaced people. They demanded the officials that they won’t leave the villages until their demand accepted by the Government.

The Government has allotted Rs.2.87 lakhs per house to the displaced people in the rehabilitation colonies. However, some people did not get the house site nearer to the farm land allotted under land to land deal. They questioned this also. The officials listened their demands and tried to explain the second phase housing scheme and showed the new designs prepared for the victims. The double bed room house construction is much costlier than the government rate, the victims stated. They said that at present only givng Rs.2.87 lakhs to the house which is insufficient. Mandal Tahsildar Ch Ravi Kumar, ZPTC member Kunjam Subhashini and other displaced people participated in the meeting. The officials without any resolution left the place.
