Rail Roko attempt foiled - police arrested 11 YSRCP leaders in Eluru
Eluru: A Tense situation prevailed at Powerpeta Railway station in Eluru city on Wednesday, following the rail-roko attempt by YSRCP workers and leaders. The police did not allow the party leaders and workers into the Railway station and arrested 11 people including MLC Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas.
In response to a call given by YSRCP President YS Jaganmohan Reddy demanding special category status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh, the YSRCP workers and leaders led by MLC and District YSRCP president Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas (Nani) reached Powerpeta Railway Station. Heavy police deployment was seen at the Railway station, and when the workers tried to enter the station, police stopped them. The party leaders and workers had a war of words with the police. When the police tried to pull the leaders, a scuffle has taken place between police and the workers. The irate workers and YSRCP leaders squatted in front of the Railway station. MLC Alla Nani has questioned the police for obstructing the worker's agitation for special status to the state. He along with other leaders expressed their protest on the police action.
The police have arrested 11 leaders including MLC Alla Nani, former MLA Tellam Balaraju, party Eluru Coordinator Madhyahnapu Eswari and shifted to the 2-town police station. The party workers reached two-town police station and demanded an immediate release of their leaders. As tension prevailed at the police station, the police shifted the 11 leaders to the 3-town police station. The YSRCP district women cell President Vandanapu Sai Bala Padma, BC Cell District President Ghanta Prasada Rao, State Secretary Kamma Sivaramakrishna, SC Cell convener Munnula John Gurunath, BC Cell convenor Kiladi Durga Rao, leaders Bandaru Kiran Kumar, MRD Balaram and others led the agitation.
in Bhimavaram, the YSRCP former MLC Meka Seshu Babu, former MLAs Mudunuri Prasada Raju, Kottu Satyanarayana led the workers to Bhimavaram station. They squatted on the railway track for some time. The Narsapuram-Nidadavole passenger train was halted as the workers on the track. Later the police asked the leaders to leave the place.
