Overcome challenges like Ambedkar, students told

Tirupati: Speakers at the 36th foundation day celebrations of Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV), the only women’s university in the State have lauded the vision of former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao which helped in establishing the university in the pilgrim city. 

NTR, the then Chief Minister extending its services to the entire state inaugurated the SPMVV on April 14, 1983, which coincides with the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar. The wife of Dr Ambedkar, Savitha Ambedkar was also present on that day. On its 36th foundation day on Saturday, the Chairperson of AP Women's Commission Nannapaneni Rajakumari, who was the chief guest, addressed the gathering. She said that the university was the brainchild of great leader NTR and she was fortunate in participating in the inaugural function along with him and Savitha Ambedkar.

Touching upon the importance of education, she felt that educating others will have multiplier effect which has no boundaries or end. “Whatever degrees you acquire through education are permanent and the positions like MLA, MLC or MP which are suffixed to our names are not permanent,” she asserted. The women panel chief asked the students to make their parents and the society proud of them. Terming student suicides as unfortunate, she said, everyone should know the importance of life before taking such a decision. 

They should think of their parents and family, who have lots of hopes on their future. “One should live and achieve what they want by facing several challenges. Even, the great visionary Dr Ambedkar has faced several challenges in his early days. One should not let the depression to come into their minds at all,” she exhorted. Presiding over the function the V-C Prof V Durga Bhavani explained how the university has grown into leaps and bounds over the years and proudly said that the students once join in the campus are going out after completing the course as perfect women. She said the sprawling campus provide virtually an academic climate and the varsity has grown into an institution of academic excellence. 

The University has been offering 59 courses at the post graduate and graduate levels along with a proportionate component of research to the women students of AP and was accredited with ‘A’ Grade by NAAC. Paying tributes to Dr Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, she described him as the outstanding intellectual of the country. Tirupati MLA M Suguna also spoke on the occasion in which Rector Prof V Uma, Registrar Prof DM Mamatha, Deans Prof DB Krishna Kumari, Prof K Sandhya Rani, Prof Chandrakala, Prof D Bharathi, Prof D Sarada, Prof A Jyothi, Prof Ramakrishna Rao, Prof Katyayani and others took part.
