AP is no better than UP for women: YS Jagan

​Vijayawada: YSRCP president YS Jaganmoahn Reddy on Monday tweeted AP is no better than UP and Jammu and Kashmir in crimes against women and children. 

Expressing dismay at the sad gang-rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl in Kathua in Jammu and the rape of 17-year-old girl in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, the YSRCP chief said that the heinous incidents were as much a testimony to lack of humanity as they were to the state of law and order in our country. “And AP sadly, has done no better,” he said. 

In October last year, a woman was raped in broad daylight in Railway Colony in Vizag, he said. In December, a Dalit woman was publicly stripped and assaulted in Pendurthi. “This time, it cannot be business as usual. This time the punishment must be exemplary so no perpetrator can even dream of such a crime,” he added.  

Jagan cancelled Padayatra on Monday in the wake of AP bandh observed by members of Pratyeka Hoda Sadhana Samithi and different Opposition parties.
