36 netas from 2014 polls face cases of crimes against women

Hyderabad: As many as five TDP MLAs and 36 candidates from all parties in 2014 elections from Andhra Pradesh are facing cases related to crimes against women. From Telangana, 15 candidates are involved in similar crimes against the women.        

The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) released a report on the cases related to crimes against women pending against the legislators in every state.  The report said that TDP MLA from Pendurthi Assembly constituency Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy was facing 4 cases out of which 3 are serious under various IPC Sections.

One among the cases was charges framed against the MLA related to word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman (IPC section-509). Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Minister and Mylavaram MLA Devineni Uma Maheshwara Rao was facing 13 cases including those under IPC section 509. 

Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar was facing highest number of cases 23 in the Andhra Pradesh. They include 13 serious cases under various IPC sections. They include crime against women. Charges were framed in three cases so far. 

Anantapur MLA Gunuguntla Suryanarayana is facing 10 cases of which eight were of serious nature including charges related to rape under IPC section 376.  AP Labour Minister K Atchannaidu  is facing one case on charges related to assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty under IPC section 354.

The report found 15 contestants from Telangana in the last elections are facing cases under various sections for outraging the modesty of women. However, their names were not disclosed in the report.
