Narsapur civic chief, 16 councillors resign
Eluru: In a surprise move, the Municipal Chairperson and 16 Councillors including one cooption member resigned from their posts in protest against the attitude of deputy executive engineer of Narsapur municipality.
Addressing media at Narsapur on Monday, Municipal Chairperson Pasupuleti Ratnamala said that during Godavari Pushkarams, funds have received to Narsapur municipality for taking up the development works. “We have developed the town with those funds. However, the new deputy executive engineer G Srikanth after assuming charge one-year back, had neglected the duties.
She said that he failed to develop the graveyards utilising the 14th Finance Commission funds. Due to his attitude, the works have been stalled and even funds are in the grants form, the municipality is unable to get permissions and estimations.
One person recently paid money for poor people’s tap connection for Rs 200, the water pipe did not sanction by the DE. Ratnamala said she has represented the issue before the DE Srikanth and he insulted her in the presence of staff and councillors.
She said on March 31, the Council had resolved to surrender the DE to the government and sent the resolution to the government, municipal minister P Narayana, in-charge minister Prattipati Pullarao and MLA Bandaru Madhava Naidu.
Those ministers, MLA did not take any action and issued orders to continue the DE in Narsapuram. When the ministers and MLA did not respect the Council resolution, we felt embarrassed and in view of this, we have resigned from the posts, the Chairperson and 16 Councillors said.
A councilor said he humiliated the Chairperson Ratnamala in a private function with dirty songs. They sent their resignations to the Chief Minister and municipal administration minister.
