Progressive Organisation for Women activists stage dharna

Visakhapatnam: The women activists of Progressive Organisation for Women staged a dharna demanding that the government strengthen the Acts and implement stringent punishment to the offenders, who sexually harass children and women.

Speaking on the occasion here on Tuesday, POW State Secretary M Lakshmi said that in recent times the incidents of harassment on women at workplace, industries, and educational institutions and at other places are on the rise.

She demanded that the state government set up Local Complaint Cell (LCC) as the victims can directly lodge complaints online at educational institutions, industries and work places.

All the women should be aware of the Women Acts and the Fast Track Courts should follow the Acts strictly. According to Justice Varma Commission recommendations, the state government should implement the Acts in the primary stages and ban the  porn sites.
