Muslim body seeks more seats in next polls
Proddatur (Kadapa): Speakers at the regional-level conference of the Muslim Hakkula Yekikrutha Sadhana Samiti (MHYSS) gave a call for Muslims to join hands for protecting their constitutional and political rights. The conference was held here on Wednesday.
The MHYSS demanded all political parties to allocate 15 MLA and 5 MP seats in Rayalaseema region for Muslims as their population is 28 per cent in Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantapur and Chittoor districts. The Sadhana Samithi found fault with the BJP-led NDA government for interfering in personal and religious matters of the Muslims.
Addressing the conference, former Hindupur MP Nizamuddin has alleged that all political parties are showing discrimination towards the community in providing tickets at the time of elections. Former MP said that the Justice Ranganath Misra Committee’s report claimed Muslims are lagging on all fronts when compared to Dalits.
In 2004, 33 MPs from Muslim community were elected and now the representation in the Parliament is very less due to discrimination shown by the political parties. Former Minister Ahmedullah said community members unable to secure the various benefits provided in the Constitution due to lack unity. Proddatur Municipal Vice-Chairman Zabiullah Khan, Jammalamadugu Municipal Vice-Chairman Mulla Jani and others were present.
