Chocolate for wearing helmet

Vijayawada: ‘Helmet Pettuko Chocolate Tisuko - Seat belt Pettuko Chocolate Tisuko’ is the slogan that reverberated as part of the 29th National Highway Safety Seek when the transport department organised a unique programme on wearing helmet and seat belt here on Friday.

The transport department organised the awareness programme on road safety at the deputy transport commissioner's office centre from 4 pm to 6 pm. They gave chocolates for wearing helmets and seat belts.

People, who were not wearing seat belt and helmet, were rounded up by the youth wearing T-shirts with road safety rules printed on the T-Shirt. They were chanting and clapping to follow traffic rules. The transport department staff displayed road safety placards and distributed pamphlets.

Deputy Transport Commissioner (DTC) E Meera Prasad said that most of the fatal accidents of two-wheelers happened because of not wearing helmets and over speed and added by wearing seat belts one can be saved from fatal accidents.

By wearing helmet and seat belt while driving one can save one’s life, said the commissioner. He said that by this unique way of creating awareness one will follow traffic rules while riding and driving.

Team leader M Raja Babu said that most of the fatal accidents occur by not following traffic rules and not wearing seat belts and helmets. He said that by this innovative way of creating awareness one will feel the responsibility of following the traffic rules, he added.

SRR and CVR College principal Velaga Joshi, motor vehicle inspector V Srinivas, TVS Subba Rao, M Jaya Rao, college students and others were present.
