Tirupati: To strengthen the security of temple city, the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) has decided to install 2,500 CCTV cameras in two phases in and around the temple city. As part of smart city project, the civic body authorities have begun installing 1,200 CCTV cameras in the first phase.

The MCT entered an understanding with Aecom company. The main concept of the project is to improve the non-visible policing to provide security for the city residents and pilgrims. For the last one week, the technical team of Aecom has been installing face and vehicle number recognition cameras at Lakshmi Srinivasa Nagar, Cherlopalli, MR Palli, Annamayya Circle and Alipiri traffic junctions. MCT Commissioner Ch Hari Kiran and Urban SP Abhishek Mohanty have jointly identified the spots where the CCTV cameras must be fixed.

Apart from police surveillance, the MCT officials can monitor like clogging of drainage, sanitation maintenance on main roads, clearing of garbage and other day-to-day civic activities through CCTVs connected to central command control centre. Speaking to The Hans India, Hari Kiran said that the fixing of surveillance cameras has begun at main traffic junctions in Tirupati. ‘The works of command control centre will begin soon,” he stated. On the suggestion of the Urban SP, the civic body decided to fix high resolution CCTV cameras at entry and exit points of temple city for cracking the crime cases.
