New applications to bring transparency in voters list

Tirupati: To bring transparency in voters’ list, the Election Commission has introduced BLONET and ERONET apps through which intensive revision of voters’ list by going door-to-door could be taken up for two months from May, said Deputy Chief Election Commissioner Dr Sandeep Saxena. 

Reviewing the preparation of voters’ list here on Saturday with District Collector PS Pradyumna and EROs andtahsildars, Sandeep Saxena observed that preparation of voters’ list has been a continuous practice and there is a need to prepare the list with 100 percent transparency.

He said that Andhra Pradesh has been making use of the latest technology and going forward. “It has become a continuous practice to publish fresh voters’ list on January 1 of every year. Every care has to be taken in removing the names of deceased from the list and include the eligible voters by visiting each and every house,” he said.

BLONET and ERONET applications have been tested for its practical purposes which are linked to the Election Commission, he said and added these applications will avoid delay in uploading data and bring transparency.“Through BLONET, when booth level officer visits a house and take a photo of voter and upload the document in the app. It will be linked with the ERONET and if everything is in order, generation of voter card will be completed,” Sandeep Saxena explained. BLONET will have eight forms for various purposes through which time will be saved and the process can be completed without the use of paper, he said. Every voter will have a unique voter ID number which will never change if he shifts to other constituency or state, he pointed out.

Stating training will be given to BLOs in using the App, Saxena said the whole process was aimed at preparing 100 percent purified voters’ list for 2019 elections. District Collector PS Pradyumna explained the steps being taken in the district for crating awareness among the youth in colleges. Joint Collector PS Girisha, EROs, tahsildars and others took part in the meeting.
