Excise police adopt standard operating procedure to curb illicitly distilled liquor

Srikakulam: To prevent manufacturing and selling of illicitly distilled liquor (IDL) in Agency and remote villages, the excise department adopted standard operating procedure (SOP) from now onwards, said excise director K Venkateswara Rao. 

After conducting a workshop on SOP with excise officials at Srikakulam, Venkateswara Rao interacted with media on Monday. He said the department was following step wise method to prevent IDL including identification of manufacturing and sales locations, education among stakeholders who are involving in it and prevention of manufacturing. Finally, the department would book criminal cases, he added.

At present we have identified 102 villages in eight mandals across the district where IDL was prepared regularly, he said. “To prevent IDL, we have planned to open village history sheet, ID sheet against both manufacturers and sellers and surprise checks.

We are planning to involve women and educated youth in each village to prevent IDL as they are right persons to bring change in the minds of both manufacturers and customers of IDL” he explained. 

He called upon social media to create awareness among public against IDL besides print and electronic media. Excise enforcement assistant commissioner (AC) B Srinivasulu, Srikakulam ES, G Nageswara Rao, Palasa in-charge ES Ch Das attended.
