Advocates stage protest against police
Visakhapatnam: Advocates under the banner of Visakhapatnam Bar Association (VBA) boycotted their duties and staged a protest against the Pendurthy police for their highhandedness and registering cases against advocate JVV Jagadeeswara Rao. Coming down heavily on the men-in-khaki for their alleged violation of the law, the legal fraternity demanded that the police immediately withdraw the cases registered against the advocate Jagadeeswara Rao.
President of VBA B Ramakrishna said that the Pendurthy police had registered cases under IPC Sections 402, 406 and 506 against advocate Rao, based on a complaint lodged by one Peela Srinivasa Rao without verifying the facts. General secretary of VBA Anuradha Pappu said that advocate Rao was fighting a civil case (property dispute) for his client against Peela Srinivasa Rao.
Anuradha said that Rao’s client is also brother of Srinivasa Rao and the case is civil in nature and the cops has no business in booking a criminal case against the advocate, she pointed out. The VBA members said that as per the apex court guidelines, the cops couldn’t book cases against doctors and advocates without a detailed inquiry.
