Meetings, rallies mark May Day

Tirupati: May day was celebrated in a befitting manner by various organisations and trade union bodies across the city on Tuesday. Several main junctions wore full of red flags and banners as the labourers organised meetings, rallies, hoisting of flags and other activities.

The Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) organised a function in which the leaders have unfurled the party flag in the city. IFTU district general secretary R Harikrishna has participated in the programme. Speaking on the occasion, he explained the importance of May Day and how it was being celebrated for so many years.

He called upon all the workers to contribute their might for the overall development of the temple city. As the governments have been failing in providing minimum amenities to the public, the workers should work like an army and fight against the governments.

Leaders of various associations, P Venkatarathnam, Balakrishna, Sobha, Ganesh, Raja, Ganga, Rani, Reddeppa and others took part. CPM and CITU also organised May Day celebrations in which CPM district secretary Kumar Reddy, CITU leader Kandarapu Murali and others participated. They organised a rally and hoisted a party flag. The leaders told that all the workers should fight unitedly in achieving their demands.

The motor cycle mechanics association has organised May Day celebrations in a grand manner in which TUDA Chairman G Narasimha Yadav has participated as chief guest. Tirupati Parliamentary Constituency BJP in-charge Munisubramanyam, ESI State Board Director N Mohan, Bhojaraju, Chenchu Reddy, A Munireddy, Malliswaran Yadav and others also took part.

Narasimha Yadav said that the TDP government has been committed for the welfare of workers in the unorganised sector. If anybody brings the problems being faced by the workers, he will take them to the Chief Minister and find a solution. Other leaders also spoke on the occasion and explained various insurance schemes that would help the workers.

In another programme held by BC Welfare Association under the leadership of its district women president Sangeetha, they have distributed blouses, bangles, turmeric and Kumkum for women and towels to men. Speaking to them, Sangeetha said that when workers live happily that day would be the real May Day. Association leaders Dhanalakshmi, Varalakshmi and others participated.
