Unseasonal rains cause 16 cr loss in Guntur district

Guntur: Unseasonal rains destroyed the crops in 3,920 hectares and 5,962 farmers incurred losses in Guntur district, said Minister for Agriculture Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy. He said crop loss caused Rs 16 crore loss. 

He visited damaged banana orchards and fields where maize crop was cultivated in Patur, Gundimeda and Vellampudi villages in Tadepalli mandals in the district on Friday, along with the officials, and interacted with the farmers. He said that the government will extend helping hand to the farmers, who incurred losses, due to unseasonal rains in the state. 

He said that the government will give Rs 24,000 per hectare to the banana farmers who suffered losses and directed the officials to meet the officials and conduct enumeration and assess crop damage to pay compensation to the farmers. He further stated that the government released input subsidy of Rs 3,040 crore and Rs 2,075 crore for purchasing paddy from the farmers.
