ONGC to dig 72 wells in Krishna-Godavari basin

Rajamahendravaram: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Rajamahendravaram unit devised an action plan to dig 72 oil and gas wells in Krishna-Godavari Basin (KGB) in East Godavari, West Godavari and Krishna districts, with an estimated cost of Rs 792 crore. Of the total wells, as many as 48 wells come up in East Godavari  district with Rs 528 crore.

According to ONGC sources, the wells come up in its 72 drilling sites in KGB. As part of it, ONGC is conducting public hearings in the respective areas and waiting for environment clearances.

In East Godavari, the wells come up in the villages of Angara and Vedurumudi of Kapileswarapuram mandal, Kalvacharla and Pinapalla of Alamur mandal, Pedapalla of Mandapeta mandal, Odalarevu, Devarlanka and Tadikona of Allavaram mandal, Gollapalem of Malikipuram mandal, Lutukurru and Karavaka of Mamidikuduru mandal  and Katrenipadu of Razole mandal.

ONGC is trying to acquire five to six acres of land to dig the wells and as many as four months time is needed to dig a well and only agriculture lands used for drilling operations. Surface water, quality of water, sound levels, environment problems etc  have to be considered.
