Vizianagaram: The people here are forced to stand under the hot sun during the summer as there is no shelter while waiting for buses. The people are standing on the roads as some of the bus shelters were damaged and some were removed during road widening works.

The Vizianagarm Municipal Council has undertaken the road widening works across the town. Especially, the road from Balaji Junction to Mayuri Junction is proposed to widen up to 100 feet. The widening works are under progress. But the municipal authorities demolished the bus shelter near RTC Complex. Now, the public travelling towards S Kota, Kothavalasa and Vizag are forced to stand under the hot sun.

A tree, which was giving shadow to the commuters at Balaji Junction, was axed. Now the passengers are moving towards Srikakulam as they did not have option than standing under the sun. Even the public, who travel to Denkada and Pusapatirega, are also standing under the sun at Fort Junction.

KV Ramana, a lecturer, who travels to Bobbili daily from here, said: “We have no bus shelters here and we are standing under the sun till the arrival of bus. Sometimes, it’s very difficult to stand here under scorching sun”.

The busy area, Mayuri Junction have been deprived of bus shelter. Hundreds of RTC buses from Vizag and Parvathipuram enter this town through this junction only. Even the passengers, regular travellers like employees and students also stand at Mayuri Junction and wait for busses.  The bus shelters, which were demolished during road widening works, should be constructed yet again.

Municipal chairman P Ramakrishna said that some bus shelters were demolished during the development works and those would be constructed soon. “We are planning to make alternative and temporary arrangements for the convenience of the public,” he said.
