1,300 AP cops working in TS to return to State

Rajamahendravaram: Finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu has said that 1,300 policemen belonging to Andhra Pradesh (AP) against 1,500 working in Telangana state will join state police department shortly and steps were initiated in this regard.

Speaking to reporters at District Police Training Centre here on Saturday, he said the Andhra Pradesh government not yet handed over the Secretariat to Telangana government as some departments are working from there. After division of the state, the government had sanctioned Rs 100 crore to police department for purchasing vehicles and to combat transportation problem of the department. 

Stating that the government is taking steps to strengthen police department by providing necessary facilities, Yanamala said the government had allotted five acres of land to intelligence wing for construction of office building and funds were also released to ACB for its own buildings.  

He said that the government would also extend same benefits to Home Guards on par with police department and added the police and people should cooperate with each other to reduce crime rate. Stating women were recruited in armed reserve wing on par with men, Yanamala said the government had recruited 6,000 policemen in the state after teaching community. 

Since four years the government spent Rs 50,000 crore on irrigation projects and Rs 67,000 crore on 103 welfare schemes, he said and added the government would extend full cooperation for the construction of hydel-power project as part of Polavaram Project.
