38 bus passengers escape from major mishap

Singarayakonda: The passengers on board of a private bus from Bengaluru to Vijayawada escaped a major accident near Singarayakonda on Tuesday morning. The bus they were travelling in was hit by a speeding lorry from behind, injuring one person who was shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Ongole.

The non-AC pushback seated bus belongs to Sri Venkataramana Travels of registration number AP16TH0888 started at Bengaluru around 09.00 p.m on Monday night with 38 passengers and was expected to reach Vijayawada by 08.00 a.m on Tuesday.

The bus is almost on schedule and is about to reach destination in 3 hours.  At around 5.00 a.m the driver slowed down the bus to allow some passengers to get down at Sanampudi flyover, but a speeding transport lorry of registration number AP07TH7677 hit the vehicle from behind.

The passengers, who were in sleep woke up with a sudden jolt and found that one of them has broken his leg. The Singarayakonda SI Nagamalleswara Rao reached the spot and shifted the injured passenger to RIMS Ongole. The lorry driver fled from the scene immediately after the accident. Alternate transport facility was arranged to passengers.
