Demand to name Vizag after Alluri
Visakhapatnam: Describing revolutionary Telugu freedom fighter Alluri Seetharama Raju as an icon and inspiring leader, who fought against the mighty British empire, students, NGOs and Left party leaders demanded the State government to name Visakhapatnam after Seetharama Raju, on the occasion of his 94th death anniversary here on Monday.
Dr Zaheer Ahmed, who is running a non-profit organisation, said that both the governments had given permission for installing Alluri Seetharama Raju statue in the Parliament and Legislative Assembly.
But, the political leaders had failed to set up the statue of freedom fighter, Ahmed demanded the state government to establish statue in the premises of Legislative Assembly before July 4th, the birth anniversary of Alluri.
CPI State assistant secretary J V Satyanarayana Murthy said that they will fight for achieving railway zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters by taking inspiration from Seetharama Raju. CPM State secretariat member Ch Narsinga Rao has recalled that Alluri had inspired and united the different tribes to wage guerrilla war against the Britishers.
With his inspiration, the party had succeeded to fight against the government for basic needs of tribals and strongly opposed Bauxite mining.
ABVP activists paid tributes to the great iconic leader and demanded the state government to name Visakhapatnam after Alluri.
