Importance of dogs in checking smuggling of narcotics stressed

Vijayawada: Director general of police M Malakondaiah said canines were very useful to check smuggling of red sanders, narcotics, gold and even explosives and the police department should give proper training for them. The DGP on Monday presided over the function arranged at the Sixth Battalion (Mangalagiri) to mark the passing out parade of canines.

The Intelligence department has given eight months training to five species of canines, i.e. Belgian Malinois (Belgium), Golden Retriever (UK), Labrador (UK), Doberman Pinscher (Germany) and  English Cocker Spaniel (UK). In all, 30 dogs were given special training for tracing explosives, tracing of criminals and guarding of properties and people. The canines will be sent to the districts to help the local police.  

So far, 186 canines are serving the police department in the state. Now, 30 more wre added on Monday. Intelligence additional IG AB Venkateswara Rao, Intelligence IG Mahesh Chandra Laddha and other officials attended the event.
