Kodela calls to protect girls from sexual abuse
Guntur: AP Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr Kodela Siva Prasada Rao flagged off a rally at the Collectorate here on Monday, to provide protection to the girl children and women in the backdrop of rise in sexual abuse cases.
Following instructions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the district administration organised a rally ‘Aadabiddaku Rakshanaga Kadhuludaam’ to instil confidence among the girls.
The rally was taken out from the Collectorate to GMC Guest House. Speaking on the occasion, the Assembly Speaker stated that it is the responsibility of every citizen to provide protection to girl children and women and expressed serious concern over increasing rape cases.
He felt that stern action should be taken against the rapists. He urged the parents take care of their minor girls and watch their movements. Civil Supplies Minister Prattipati Pulla Rao said that the Chief Minister has directed the officials to conduct rallies for creating awareness against sexual violence on women and girls.
He directed the police officials to register cases under the Nirbhaya Act against rapists. Minister for Social and Tribal Welfare Nakka Ananda Babu said that they are imparting training in martial arts to the girl students in the Social Welfare Residential Schools across the state.
He felt there is need to create fear in the minds of the rapists by imposing stern punishments. ZP Chairperson Janimun, District Collector Kona Sasidhar, MLA Modugula Venugopala Reddy, Guntur Urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao, GMC Commissioner Srikesh B Latkar and other officials and students of various colleges were present.
