2,734 Mandal Parishad Primary schools to start EM classes

Guntur: The school education department has accorded permission to 2,734 Mandal Parishad Primary Schools to introduce English medium from this academic year to attract more students. Another 2,000 schools will get the nod in the next four or five days.

They will be accorded permission to start English medium parallel to Telugu medium after conducting feasibility study. The government schools have seen steep fall in enrolment with parents preferring English medium for their wards.

As part of efforts to arrest this trend, district educational officers (DEOs) in the state had sent proposals to introduce English medium classes in 9,175 schools, out of which the government has given nod to 2,734 schools so far.

In Guntur, 334 schools have received permission to start Englsh medium classes from this academic year.  Sources in education department said headmasters of the schools which have been given permission were asked to make arrangements to start English medium classes and ramp up campaign to increase enrolment. 

The government will conduct Mana Vuru-Mana Badi programme for a week from June 4 to 11 across the state to admit students in the government schools.

Education department principal secretary Aditya Nath Das told The Hans India that the government had given permission to start English medium classes in MPP schools to improve their student strength. He said the school education department will make necessary arrangements to start classes. 

DEO R Ganga Bhavani said the government had given nod to start English medium classes in 334 MPP schools. “We have qualified teachers. If necessary, we will impart further training to them. I have directed the schools concerned to make arrangements to start English medium classes,” she said.
