Kadapa: TDP district president R Srinivasa Reddy alleged former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy had laid foundation stone for uranium factory by ignoring people’s protest during the Congress rule.

Speaking to the media in Proddatur on Tuesday, the TDP leader stated that YS Rajasekhara Reddy was firm on setting up uranium plant in the district despite people of Vemula mandal and its surrounding villages have strongly opposed it.

Unmindful of scientists and experts’ warnings of damage to crops and groundwater pollution, the TDP leader said district administration had passed a resolution unilaterally for setting up uranium unit without conducting public hearing.

Srinivasa Reddy explained the then Central government should have provided jobs to 2 persons from each displaced family as per the agreement. The other benefits to oustees are Rs 70,000 to the uncultivable land and Rs 1 lakh for gardens. Either Rajasekhara Reddy or present YSRCP MPs did not raise the issue in the Parliament seeking justice to displaced families, he slammed.

The TDP district chief said that the State government had already brought the issue to the notice of the Central government for finding a permanent solution to the long pending issues.  Focusing on district development, Srinivasa Reddy made Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu responsible for bringing Krishna waters to Pulivendula constituency for irrigation needs.

While admitting group politics within the party in Badvel Assembly constituency, he stated the TDP supremo had suspended the leaders responsible for violation of party discipline. Former Proddatur MLA Varadarajulu Reddy, former MLC B Pullaiah, Proddatur Municipal Chairman A Raghurami Reddy, party town president E V Sudhakar Reddy and others were present.
