Craft teachers launch relay hunger strike
Visakhapatnam: The Art, Work and Physical Education Teachers Union launched a relay hunger strike here on Friday in protest against listing out Art and Work teachers in the DSC notification, Though the government was assuring that the Art and Work teachers would be recruited through DSC for the past three decades, but to no avail. During 2014 general elections, the TDP had assured the teachers that after coming to power, Art and Work teachers would be recruited through DSC, but in vain.
Over 5,000 qualified Art and Work teachers are eagerly waiting for the recruitment notification and in the recent DSC notification also, the government did not include the Art and Work teachers.
Addressing a gathering, coordinator of Visakhapatnam District Art, Work and Physical Education Teachers Association B Shankar Neelu said that the government is claiming that the novel education system is being introduced, but not recruiting the Art and Work teachers in the schools.
For the past several years, the qualified youth are looking for the recruitment, but the government was neglecting the qualified teachers, Shankar alleged.
Addressing the teachers, General Secretary of Pradesh Congress Committee Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao assured that the Congress party will support and fight for their demand.
Expressing solidarity with the agitating teachers, BJP MLC PVN Madhav also participated in the relay hunger strike. Speaking on the occasion, Madhav demanded that the government announce recruitment of Art and Work teachers’ through DSC.
Meanwhile, the Student Federation of India and left parties also announced their support to the Art and Work teachers agitation.
