Fervour marks Hanuman Jayanti

Vijayawada: Hanuman Jayanthi was celebrated with religious fervour and devotion across the city on Thursday. Priests performed special ‘akupuja’ (betel leaves), ‘ashtottara’ and ‘vadamala’ to the deity.

The temples were reverberated with Hanuman Chalisa, Sundarakanda Parayanam, Hanumadvratam while Sri Suvarchalaa Hanumat Kalyanam was performed in several temples at various places in the city.

Despite severe summer heat, many temples were filled with the devotees, dressed in traditional attire and lengthy queues were witnessed at various areas. The temples were resounded with ‘Jai Sri Ram’ and ‘Jai Hanuman’ slogans as the devotees proceeded to offer prayers to the deity.

Hundreds of devotees thronged Anjaneya Swamy temples atop Indrakeeladri, Benz Circle, Machavaram Sri Dasanjaneya temple and Sri Bhramaramba Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam and Uttaradi Matham on the Canal Road. 

For the convenience of devotees, and to overcome the summer heat wave, many temple committees provided drinking water, buttermilk and refreshments besides tents for the devotees.

Dwaraka Tirumala:  Hanuman temples in West Godavari district were flooded with devotees to mark the Hanuman Jayanti on Thursday. Hundreds of devotees thronged Sri Maddi Anjaneya Swamy temple at Guravaigudem in West Godavari district.

Denduluru MLA and Government Whip Chintamaneni Prabhakar, his wife visited the temple to offer prayers to Lord Anjaneya Swamy. The temple authorities welcomed the Government Whip with temple honours.

Later, Chintamaneni Prabhakar offered special prayers to the Lord. New Joint Collector M Venugopal Reddy, along with his wife, visited the temple and offered prayers to God. The temple officials received the new Joint Collector with temple honours. Later, he offered prayers at the temple.

The devotees reached the temple from early hours of Thursday and offered prayers to Lord Maddi Anjaneya Swamy. Executive officer Penmetsa Viswanatha Raju made elaborate arrangements in view of the rush of pilgrims to the temple.
