First SHE team in state set up at Narsipatnam

Visakhapatnam: SHE team was introduced at Narsipatnam in Visakhapatnam district for the first time after Hyderabad police successfully launched the SHE team in 2014. 

In all, 87 women police personnel were deployed at various police stations in the district  Out of 304 civil constables, who were trained in Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and Kakinada police training centres for nine months, 87 women police were allocated to the district police and they were deployed in 25 police stations. 

With the success of SHE team at Narsipatnam, many more teams would be introduced in other police stations, including Anakapalle. Apart of policing, the SHE teams will also take up awareness programmes on Acts and rights for women. The team will also focus on conducting programmes like ‘Good touch and Bad touch’ at schools. The district police also chalking out to introduce audio- visual presentations to highlight these aspects and the team members will be trained and groomed according to that.

According to Superintended of Police (Rural) Rahul Dev Sharma, in 2017,  12 women murder cases, 115 harassment, 38 rape cases, 148 cases of outraging of modesty, six abetment to suicide and 16 kidnap cases were reported in the district. To control such crimes against women and as a part of policing, SHE team was introduced to curb eve teasing and assaults against women.

The first ever SHE team in the district at Narsipatnam will be headed by Circle Inspector Revathamma. Her team comprises one male constable, four women constables and they will work under the supervision of Narsipatnam Additional Superintendent of Police K Arif Hafeez.
