AP Govt contemplating weightage marks
Visakhapatnam: HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao made a key announcement that the government is contemplating to announce weightage marks to the students who perform meritoriously in games and sports.
While inaugurating the Summer Sports and Games coaching camp in the city, the HRD Minister said that the government is very keen to give weightage marks to the winners in various sports and games.
The State government is already giving incentives, jobs, house sites and cash awards at a large scale to the sportspersons to promote the games and sports in a big way, he added.
Visakhapatnam has been developing in all sectors and the government has decided to promote the Port City as a sports hub in the state, he said. An action plan is being prepared to conduct beach sports and games at national and international level, he added.
The GVMC has been conducting the summer sports games for the past four years. In the present season, the GVMC is conducting the camp in 38 fields at 48 places at a cost of Rs 86 lakh. The boys and girls aged between 8 and 15 are eligible to get admission for the coaching.
Visakhapatnam West MLA and government whip P V G R Naidu, Commissioner of GVMC M Hari Narayanan, Director of Sports Ch Satyanarayana and Olympic Association President T S R Prasad were present on the occasion. After the inauguration, the Minister, Commissioner, MLA and other officials took part in games.
