Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation council has finally decided to construct the municipal complexes to generate revenue in the lands owned by the civic body rather than leasing the lands to the private parties for developmental works on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode or Built Operate Transfer (BOT) mode.

The VMC decided to avail loans from the banks for the construction of three complexes in the city.  The council on Thursday passed a resolution in this regard. Koneru Sridhar chaired the council meeting. The VMC owns 1,880 square yards land in municipal quarters at Brindavan Colony, Labbipet, 2,300 square yards land at Hanuman Pet, 3,712 square yards in the Old VMC guest house near sub-collector’s office and 4,453 square yards vacant site at Kabela.

The VMC in the previous council meetings passed resolutions in the council to lease the land to private parties for the development activities under the Pubic Private Partnership (PPP) mode or Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) mode. The decision evoked strong criticism from the Opposition parties. The Left parties, too, opposed the decision.

Moreover, the private parties also not shown interest to take the VMC lands on lease. Finally, the VMC on Thursday passed a resolution to construct shopping complexes in three sites at Brindavan Colony, VMC old guest house site near sub-collector’s office and vacant site at Kabela.

The council also passed a resolution to develop 2300 square yards site at Jandhyala Dakshina Murthy School in Hanuman Pet into a playground for sports and games.

Hanuman Pet is deprived of play grounds. So, the VMC decided to develop the 2,300 square yards into the playground. The Mayor told the council that banks are coming forward to sanction loans for the construction of commercial complexes. The council discussed the slow progress of storm water drain works and other development works.
