Awareness meet held on consumer rights
Nellore: The district unit of the Confederation of Andhra Pradesh Consumers Organisation (CAPCO) has organised an awareness programme on consumer rights at a private function hall in the city here on Friday. Speaking at the meeting, CAPCO state general secretary P Rajareddy said that even after 32 years after the Consumers Protection Act has come into force, people are still not aware of it.
“People in every mandal have to form as teams to create awareness on the Act. These teams have to curb adulterations in food items and also to lodge complaints against the traders who resort to misuse,” said Rajareddy.
He also appealed to the organisations to create awareness among the public on the Act. People can also utilise services of consumer forum in the district, he added. He also explained that government has to form district and mandal level vigilance committees to protect the consumers in the district. CAPCO district convener Chandrasekhar presided over the function. Organisation representative D Venkataramanaiah and others were present.
