Noted litterateur Peddibhotla is no more

Vijayawada: Noted Telugu short story writer and Kendra Sahitya Academy Award winner Peddibhotla Subbaramaiah passed away at a private hospital here on Friday after a brief illness. He was 80. Litterateur par excellence, he was fondly called Peddibhota in the literary circles.

He completed his schooling in Ongole and higher studies in SRR & CVR Government College in Vijayawada. He started writing under the guidance of legendary  personality the late Vishwanatha Satyanarayana. He worked as lecturer in Andhra Loyola College for 40 years. He wrote 350 short stories and eight novels. The compilation of his short stories were brought in two volumes.

Peddibhotla regularly contributed Telugu word puzzle ‘Padabandha Prahelika; which was very popular in 1990s to a Telugu daily. His literary work was recognised with various awards, including prestigious Appajosyula Vishnubhotla Kandalam Foundation Award.

His short story collection Peddibhotla Subbaramaiah Kathalu was selected for Kendra Sahitya Academy award. He also received Raavi Sastry Smaraka Sahitya Nidhi award and Gopichand Memorial Award among others.

As per his wish, his family members donated his body to the NRI hospitals in Guntur. People from various walks of life in the city condoled the death of Peddibhotla Subbaramaiah. They consoled the family members of Subbaramaiah and praised his writings.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed his condolences over the demise of the literary figure Peddibhotla Subbaramaiah. He said his works wil remain in the hearts of Telugu people forever. YSRCP president and Opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy, minister Nara Lokesh also expressed shock at the demise of the noted writer.
