Progress of Kia works reviewed

Penukonda (Anantapur): District Collector Veera Pandian reviewed the progress of works relating to establishment of Kia Automobiles of South Korea here on Friday. He asked Penukonda Municipal Commissioner Murthy to complete the zoning of the various facilities in the South Korean project complex which include a training centre, helipad construction, township for Korean nationals, and a workers training centre.

He also called upon the APIIC Zonal Manager Nageswara Rao to complete the land sale agreement with the company within a week. He also asked Kia officials to finalise the place for setting up an effluent treatment plant at Madakasira.

An international school for Korean children and a 5-star hotel will also come up at the project site, the Collector said. He revealed that several ancillary industries are also coming up within the vicinity of the Kia project.

The Collector directed DRDA Project Director Rama Rao to train women of Self-Help Groups in producing Korean food products. Girls, who completed SSC or Intermediate, can be identified and trained in food processing.

He instructed the Fire Services department to open its office here in view of commencement of welding works in the project site. The Collector called upon officials to consider providing jobs to the project displaced families and the educated youth in the families. Kia representative Jude, R&B SE Srinath and DIC GM in-charge James Sunder Raj were among those present at the meeting.
