2,618 Mandal Parishad schools to start English medium

Guntur: The state government accorded permission to start English medium in another 2,618 mandal parishad(MP) schools in the state and issued orders to this effect.

Depending upon the feasibility, the government is giving permission to start English medium in the mandal parishad schools. District education Officers in the 13 districts in the state sent proposals to government seeking permission to start English medium classes in 9,175 schools. 

Earlier this month, as part of first phase the government gave permission to start the medium in 2,734 schools in the state. Now in the second instalment, 2,618 schools were given the nod, bringing the total number of schools to 5,352.

The move is aimed at enrolment in government schools which are witnessing exodus of students to private schools for English medium. At present,  parents are spending Rs 15,000 to Rs.20,000 per year for LKG. If they admit their children in the mandal parishad English medium schools, they need not spend much amount. Moreover, qualified teachers will teach the students.

Guntur district education officer RS Ganga Bhavani said, “We got permission to start English medium in 290 mandal parishad schools in in the second phase. Earlier, we got permission for 334 schools in the first phase. We will conduct Manavooru–Mana Badi programme from June 4 to admit out of school age children in schools.  

The teachers working in the mandal parishad schools will motivate parents to admit their children in the mandal parishad English medium schools. Parents are also interested to admit their children in English Medium. We will start first class this year because anganwadi centres are running LKG, UKG classes.”
