No more shift system in civic schools

Visakhapatnam: Municipal schools from now on run all the classes from 9 am to 4.30 pm, putting an end to shift system. Several civic schools in the state are being run in two shifts owing to lack of enough classroom accommodation.

This practice is causing severe problems to parents who are studying different classes in the same school. Municipal administration minister P Narayana, who raised the issue in a review meeting  in Visakhapatnam recently, directed the officials to end the practice.

Asking them to run the schools as per government guidelines, he said they can lease additional buildings to deal with space problem and to ensure ‘one school-same timings’ from the ensuing academic year. This shift system has been going on for more than two decades.

“We will instruct all the schools to stop such practice from the next academic year. Till additional classrooms are constructed, accommodation will be taken on rent to run the classes. Not only municipal schools,  aided and unaided schools are also running classes in two shifts due to the lack of space,” said a senior official of municipal administration department.
